Hey, I’m Richard
I’m a sound designer and musician whose work oscillates around exploring integrations of sound and body. Treating sound as a foundational element, I devise alongside other artists to create deep synchronicity between movement, space, story and texture, often using live instrumentation and foley. I’ve composed and designed site-responsive immersive soundscapes and interactive headphone shows; visual, physical and storytelling theatre; dance, and short films. I hail from Donegal, Ireland, but work internationally, with bases in Dublin, London, Paris and Marseille.
I was awarded Best Sound Design at the 2023 Dublin Fringe Festival for Mosh, a dance show about moshing and metal culture, in which I also played guitar. Other recent projects include The Animator with Akimbo Theatre (Jackson’s Lane, upcoming Southwark Playhouse); Conspiracy of Orphans (Tramshed; Gothenburg Fringe), Unforgettable Girl (Pleasance at Edinburgh Fringe) and Hold/Falling (RADA Studios) with Created A Monster; Faobhar, Gaoth agus Grá and Ou Reste Encore un Peu with Minikin (Smock Alley, La Scierie at Avignon Off); and 2084 with Immercity (Manchester Central Library).
In addition to design, I work as a sound and video operator and technician, specialising in QLab and Ableton. I’m also an actor and theatre maker and have recently completed the two-year professional course at École Jacques Lecoq in Avignon, France. You can find my full CV below.
